Pinkman

Pinkman

Artist - Japan

Born 1982 in Tokorozawa, Saitama, Japan. Lives and works in Tokyo.

From early childhood he began fine art classes at a local atelier and has been in love with art ever since!

Pinkman currently works in Japan and overseas performing live painting and illustration, he also spends time painting his own original works for sale.

In the Holocaust, people of sexual minorities were taken away and forced to wear a pink triangle to identify them as “Other”. Pink is also seem as a feminine/female colour, but adding “man” to “pink”, Pinkman is skewing the gender-lines and by blending gender stereotypes, rebelling against them. Nowadays, pink is a positive and ironic gay symbol. With this as a background, the artist chose the name “Pinkman” based not only on sexuality but also in relation to the chaos and inner-conflict within people. By morphing the feminine & masculine into the artist’s name, Pinkman is rejecting societal norms and symbols and hoping to raise doubts to those who are still against minorities.

In production he attempts to get over the obstacles between religion, the gender gap, race and discrimination, and to not make judgments. Pinkman has an original filter which allows him to draw on everyday life, music and his critical mind for inspiration to create works with an essential & unique viewpoint.
