Shrinivas Agawane

Artist - India

Finally I decided to paint. There were monsoons around. Before that the “thoughts-pressure” of what should I paint could inhibit, I stepped out of it. Instead I roamed around; did things that did not put any credit on my part. Things like reading- writing-seeing in relation to art in any way or the other. In short I kept myself cut off from the ‘artisticness’ from within.

I chose to be in jungles. Because here I could stay free from the “mass mind” and be thoughtlessly aware. The awareness that showed how the sameness in the river ripples does not create monotony. Days could be spent doing the same- seeing. I did the same until I did some. To express whatever I sensed these days, I found painting as the 1st convenient way. From impartiality (or disinterestedness) the paintings that happened from me appeared tremendously new. The way I expressed shows the change- a transition in me. Here the medium used for painting proved to be a bonus or may be not. The perception happened due to the sensory organs is ‘as it is’ transffered in these paintings.

These images of my perception did not create a battle in myself asking questions about their validness or so and nor did they praise me for creating them. Hence I found no need to evaluate them. Also some paintings, I felt, were expressing element’s side in them and some happened to be reactions to the happenings around. I openly went on allowing such occurrences of distinction in them.
